The natural environment is a topic of hot debate across the globe.
Television, radio, the internet and printed press coverage mean that
businesses and consumers alike have a greater interest and greater
knowledge of the key issues than ever before. So what are we at Detpak
doing?
Detpak has worked with sustainable practices over many
years and it is an area we continue to develop – in fact it has become
second nature to us!
Sustainable Sourcing... Detpak uses paper
and board only from 100% plantation forests managed by large reputable
raw material suppliers - meaning no old growth forests are used. Detpak
regularly audits its suppliers for evidence of sustainability, such as
FSC or PEFC accreditation.
Sustainable Manufacturing Practices... In Detpak
manufacturing plants we employ practices such as: disposal of waste in
line with EPA-approved practices; minimization of manufacturing inputs,
such as minimal use of power, and minimisation of solvent based inks and
adhesives; re-using production set-up materials; and, using the minimal
amount of outer packaging.
Carbon Footprinting... Detpak is currently
working with an external carbon management specialist to provide
independent analysis of our carbon footprint, and strategies for ongoing
reductions.
Closing the Loop... Detpak
are pro-actively working with waste management and resource recovery
stakeholders to develop increasingly sustainable outcomes for disposal
of our products, such as new recycling streams.
Use of Water, Soy or UV Inks... In excess of 90%
of Detpak’s products utilise either water, soy or UV inks. These inks
are more environmentally friendly than solvent based inks as they use
less non-renewable resources and have low levels of Volatile Organic
Compounds (VOCs), which can be hazardous to health and welfare.
Sourcing Alternate Materials... Detpak already
offers, and is actively investigating and trialing, alternate renewable
materials to provide further environmentally friendly options for its
customers.
Membership of the National Packaging Covenant of Australia... The
National Packaging Covenant promotes the principles of reduce, reuse,
recycle and educate. Detpak was one of the first signatories to the NPC
and is actively committed to all its obligations under the code.

are progressing on our journey!
