WHY SUGARCANE?
Sugarcane (bagasse) is a by-product of making sugar. When the stalks are harvested and pressed, the remaining fibrous pulp is made into a paper-like substance called bagasse, which is then formed into a variety of products from small portion cups through to large trays.
This renewable and reclaimed resource is a strong alternative to traditional plastics or polystyrene.
The complete Eco-Products sugarcane range is certified compostable and has the benefit of being breathable, cut and grease resistant and able to go in the microwave or oven#, meaning your food stays hot and crispy.

WHAT IS PLA?
Polylactic acid (PLA) is a natural starch derived from plants like corn, potatoes, tapioca and sugarcane that is processed to extract the starch and create a clear plastic-like film or bioplastic.
Unlike the traditional polyethylene (PE) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics, these innovative films and bioplastics are annually renewable and naturally compostable in a commercial facility.
Commercial compost facilities have the capacity to maintain ideal composting conditions and sustained heat and moisture needed for PLA to break down entirely with the appropriate soil bacteria, yeast, and fungi.

Clear PLA offers great visibility when displaying food to grab 'n' go

With an idea, a garage, and a desire to help the planet, Kent and Steve Savage founded Eco-Products on October 1, 1990. The plan was to provide products made from recycled materials to businesses in central Colorado.
Three decades later, Eco-Products has become and industry leader in sustainable packaging with a real understanding of the connection between the health of the planet and the impacts of disposable packaging, working to help customers be better stewards of the environment.
Eco-Products is committed to getting a third-party stamp of approval for compostability because it’s critically important that all products compost properly. Every item carrying the Eco-Products name is certified compostable or recyclable to the following international standards:
ASTM D6400
ASTM D6868 and or EN 13242
B-CORP^
^Companies who are certified B Corps have been verified to meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
So what does this really mean for Eco-Products from Detpak?
It means that you can be assured that in the age of many dubious sustainability claims, that the range from Eco-Products is the genuine article. More importantly, it is reflective of our shared and ongoing commitment to sustainable business practices and responsible design.
PFAS IN FIBRE BASED FOOD PACKAGING
PFAS (per and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of fluorinated chemical substances used in a range of applications including some food packaging, where they're added to provide grease resistant properties.
In line with APCO’s recommendations regarding the phase out of intentionally added PFAS in fibre-based food packaging, Detpak is committed to providing a full range of alternatives for our customers well ahead of the voluntary deadline on the 31st December 2023. In addition, there is a provision for a stock run out period of 6-8 months beyond this date to allow our customers time to transition to PFAS free1 options.
We’re in the process of transitioning to a PFAS free1 range of the Eco-Products molded fibre products, so please reach out to your Detpak Account Manager if you would like to trial a selection of these items in your business. The existing range of Eco-Products sugarcane molded fibre continues to be certified compostable to international standard ASTM D6868.
References 1“PFAS Free” means “No Intentionally Added PFAS”, defined as under 100 parts per million (ppm) of total fluorine, total organic fluorine or extractable organic fluorine by the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) in their Action Plan to Phase Out PFAS in Fibre-Based Food Contact Packaging, 2022.
