ECO-PRODUCTS® FROM DETPAK

Eco-Products Logo + headline.png

By 2050 it is estimated that there will be more plastic in the oceans than there are fish and our planet is straining under the pressure. But there is a solution. We are all part of it. Big change happens by everyone doing something small.

That’s why we’ve introduced Eco-Products®. It’s the plant-based takeaway packaging inspired by the need to minimise our environmental footprint and deliver change for good. The range is ethically sourced, certified and either compostable or recyclable.

We believe sustainability needs to be simple and we are committed to a world where we put waste to work. One use at a time.

Introducing Vanguard®: Market leading no added PFAS packaging

Introducing Vanguard by Eco-Products. A market leading range of no added PFAS sugarcane bagasse packaging including moulded fibre clams, bowls, trays, portion cups and plates.

Using proprietary alternative compounds to achieve grease-resistance without relying on conventional PFAS, Vanguard demonstrates Eco-Products continued commitment to choice and innovation in foodservice packaging.

Offering a broad range of sugarcane packaging solutions, the entire Eco-Products range from Detpak has now transitioned to the new Vanguard no added PFAS formula.

Using the same shapes and sizes as the original sugarcane items, this exclusive range is certified compostable to Australian Standards AS 4736 (Commercial), AS 5810 (Home), EN 13432 and BPI.*

What is PFAS?

PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) are a group of chemicals used in a range of applications in common household items, to provide them with water, heat, sticking or grease resistance properties. PFAS are considered forever chemicals as they remain present in organisms and the environment indefinitely.

The release of the Vanguard range demonstrates Detpak’s commitment to remove added PFAS from our Australian supply chain in line with the Australia Packaging Covenant Organisation‘s (APCO) Action Plan to Phase Out PFAS in Fibre-Based Food Contact Packaging.

WHY SUGARCANE?

Sugarcane (bagasse) is a by-product of the sugar industry. When the stalks of sugarcane are harvested and pressed, the remaining fibrous pulp is made into a paper-like substance called bagasse, which is then formed into a variety of products from small portion cups through to large trays and other food containers.

This renewable resource made from agricultural “waste” is a strong alternative to traditional plastics or polystyrene as bagasse products are strong, grease and cut resistant and have a number of environmental benefits. Removing the added PFAS chemicals can reduce the level of grease resistance, so we recommend testing in your own operating environment.

The complete Eco-Products sugarcane range contains no added PFAS and is certified compostable to AS 4736 (Commercial) and AS 5810 (Home). It is also breathable and able to go in the microwave or oven#, meaning your food stays hot and crispy.

WHAT IS PLA?

Polylactic acid (PLA) is a natural starch derived from plants like corn, potatoes, tapioca and sugarcane that is processed to extract the starch and create a clear plastic-like film or bioplastic.

Unlike traditional polyethylene (PE) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics, these innovative films and bioplastics are annually renewable and naturally compostable in a commercial facility.

Commercial compost facilities have the capacity to maintain ideal composting conditions and sustained heat and moisture needed for PLA to break down entirely with the appropriate soil bacteria, yeast, and fungi.

Performance Features

Clear PLA offers great visibility when displaying food to grab 'n' go
Cold food friendly
Customisable (specific items)

Environmental Benefits

Made with rapidly renewable resources
Plant based plastic
Reduces use of fossil plastics
Certified compostable;
AS 4736 - Commercially Compostable

THE ECO-PRODUCTS STORY

With an idea, a garage, and a desire to help the planet, Kent and Steve Savage founded Eco-Products on October 1, 1990. The plan was to provide products made from recycled materials to businesses in central Colorado.

Three decades later, Eco-Products has become an industry leader in sustainable packaging with a real understanding of the connection between the health of the planet and the impacts of disposable packaging, working to help customers be better stewards of the environment.

Eco-Products is committed to getting a third-party stamp of approval for compostability because it’s critically important that all products compost properly. Every item carrying the Eco-Products name is certified compostable or recyclable to one or more of the following international standards:

AS 5810 – Home Compostability

BPI  – Commercial Compostabilty

AS 4736 - Commercial Compostabilty

ASTM D6400 & ASTM D6868

EN 13432 – Commercial Compostabilty
