Introducing Vanguard®: Market leading no added PFAS packaging
Introducing Vanguard® by Eco Products® from Detpak. A market leading line of no added PFAS sugarcane bagasse packaging including moulded fibre clams, bowls, portion cups and plates.
Using proprietary alternative compounds to achieve grease-resistance without relying on conventional PFAS, Vanguard® demonstrates Eco-Products® continued commitment to choice and innovation in foodservice packaging.
Launching with a compelling initial selection of nine sustainable solutions, the entirety of the Eco-Products® from Detpak range will transition to Vanguard® by the end of 2023.
This exclusive range is certified to EN 13432, BPI and OK Compost Industrial and Home Certification Standards with Australian Standards certifications AS 4736 (Commercial) and AS 5810 (Home) in progress, due in late 2023.
What is PFAS?
PFAS (per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) are a group of chemicals used in a range of applications in common household items, to provide them with water, heat, sticking or grease resistance properties. PFAS are considered forever chemicals as they remain present in organisms and the environment indefinitely.
Over 90% of Detpak’s products don’t contain PFAS, with all remaining products with greaseproof properties transitioning by the end of 2023. This is in alignment with the Australian Packaging Covenant (APCO) voluntary action plan to phase out PFAS in fibre-based food contact packaging in Australia.

WHY SUGARCANE?
Sugarcane (bagasse) is a by-product of the sugar industry. When the stalks of sugarcane are harvested and pressed, the remaining fibrous pulp is made into a paper-like substance called bagasse, which is then formed into a variety of products from small portion cups through to large trays and other food containers.
This renewable resource made from agricultural “waste” is a strong alternative to traditional plastics or polystyrene as bagasse products are strong, cut resistant and have a number of environmental benefits

WHAT IS PLA?
Polylactic acid (PLA) is a natural starch derived from plants like corn, potatoes, tapioca and sugarcane that is processed to extract the starch and create a clear plastic-like film or bioplastic.
Unlike traditional polyethylene (PE) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics, these innovative films and bioplastics are annually renewable and naturally compostable in a commercial facility.
Commercial compost facilities have the capacity to maintain ideal composting conditions and sustained heat and moisture needed for PLA to break down entirely with the appropriate soil bacteria, yeast, and fungi.

Clear PLA offers great visibility when displaying food to grab 'n' go
Cold food friendly
Customisable (specific items)
Environmental Benefits
Made with rapidly renewable resources
Plant based plastic

With an idea, a garage, and a desire to help the planet, Kent and Steve Savage founded Eco-Products on October 1, 1990. The plan was to provide products made from recycled materials to businesses in central Colorado.
Three decades later, Eco-Products has become an industry leader in sustainable packaging with a real understanding of the connection between the health of the planet and the impacts of disposable packaging, working to help customers be better stewards of the environment.
Eco-Products is committed to getting a third-party stamp of approval for compostability because it’s critically important that all products compost properly. Every item carrying the Eco-Products name is certified compostable or recyclable to one or more of the following international standards:
ASTM D6400
ASTM D6868 and or EN 13242
B-CORP^
^Companies that are certified B Corps have been verified to meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
So what does this really mean for Eco-Products from Detpak?
It means that you can be assured that in the age of many dubious sustainability claims, the range from Eco-Products is the genuine article. More importantly, it is reflective of our shared and ongoing commitment to sustainable business practices and responsible design, offering compostable or recyclable food packaging products and an eco-friendly alternative for the food service industry.
