Detpak commits to the New Plastics Economy

18 March, 2019

The Detmold Group was recently announced as a signatory to the New Plastics Economy.

This global initiative, by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, investigates how applying circular economy principles will reduce negative impacts of plastic use.

Committing to sustainability, the Detmold Group aligns with the internationally recognised Waste Hierarchy, offering recyclable options in all product categories across brands Detpak and PaperPak.

General Manager of Marketing and Innovation for the Detmold Group, Tom Lunn, said becoming a signatory to the New Plastics Economy was an important step in an existing sustainability focus for the Group.

“We’re pleased to officially be named as a signatory to the New Plastics Economy,” Tom said.

“As signatories, we have committed to a reduction of plastic use, alongside a replacement of traditional plastic linings with recyclable alternate coatings.

“Already we’re seeing this resonate positively with our customers and consumers with the launch of our RecycleMe™ System.

“The system is a great example of how industry can apply innovation to solve difficult problems, like diverting takeaway cups from landfill.

“This system offers takeaway coffee cups with a next generation lining to allow the cup to be recycled, as well as providing collection and recycling logistics.

“We were also proud be recognised by the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation with the Excellence in Sustainability award in 2018.

“The award alongside our commitment as part of the New Plastics Economy has positioned us to assist our customers in meeting sustainability targets in line with guidelines set by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation,” Tom said.
