Case Studies

First Batch Coffee Roasters is an award-winning independent coffee roaster based in Noosa on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Known for their specialty premium coffee offerings and strong brand identity, First Batch has built a loyal following through their commitment to quality, sustainability, and exceptional customer experience.

The Challenge

As a business deeply committed to delivering reliable and environmentally responsible products, First Batch Coffee Roasters needed a packaging solution that reflected their values. Their challenge was to find a cup range that not only aligned with their sustainability goals but also matched the aesthetic and quality expectations of their brand and customer base in the Noosa region.

In addition to performance and environmental criteria, First Batch required a supplier who could incorporate custom artwork onto their cups, ensuring the packaging would serve as a visual extension of their brand. They needed a partner who could manage both the technical and creative aspects of cup production, while maintaining consistency across multiple sizes.

The Solution

Detpak partnered with First Batch to deliver a tailored packaging solution using our PLA Hot Cup Range. The hot cups are commercially compostable, supporting First Batch's environmental goals, while the cold cups are kerbside recyclable, offering a practical and sustainable option for chilled beverages.

To bring the brand to life, Detpak collaborated with Cass Deller, co-owner of First Batch and an award-winning designer, to create two custom cup designs that reflect the coastal, artisinal feel of the business. The designs were applied across three cup sizes, including the 6oz format produced through Detpak's Cup & Carry service.

Cup & Carry is Detpak's specialist short-run custom print service, ideal for small businesses looking to showcase their brand with high-quality, locally printed packaging. This service enabled First Batch to access flexible print volumes without compromising on supply, design, or quality.

The Result

The outcome was a cohesive, high-quality packaging solution that reinforces First Batch's brand identity and sustainability pledge. The custom-designed cups have become an extension of the café's customer experience - visually appealing, functional, and aligned with the values of both the business and its community.

By leveraging Detpak's manufacturing capabilities and design expertise, First Batch Coffee Roasters now offers a packaging range that supports their operational needs while enhancing their brand presence in a competitive market. Detpak's local manufacturing footprint has also ensured consistent supply and responsiveness, helping First Batch maintain stock levels and meet customer demand without disruption.
